Fundraising Strategy: Developing a Sustainable Plan
In 2012, College Track CEO David Silver tapped Kathie Kramer Ryan and Arroyo to develop local fundraising strategies to support the California-based organization’s expansion into Colorado. Not having a local fundraising professional on staff in Colorado was a challenge. College Track’s goal to broaden its funding base from a single seed funder to a comprehensive fundraising program was key to achieving long-term sustainability.
Kathie, working closely with key College Track staff and Board of Directors, drafted a comprehensive, three-year fundraising plan that encompassed individual giving, foundation grants, and corporate support. The team leveraged Salesforce as a donor database, utilizing the software’s features to manage individual donor relationships, track foundation grant opportunities, and streamline project communication.
One of Kathie’s most significant recommendations was to initiate a Colorado Leadership Council of community leaders, responsible for raising awareness and funds for the organization in Colorado. The initiation of a Colorado Leadership Council was a turning point in building support in Colorado, particularly as the College Track Board of Directors was based in California.
From Our Client
“To expand operations in Colorado, we needed local fundraising expertise. Since most of our leadership staff is based in California, we looked for a respected, highly dependable fundraising strategist with excellent communication skills. Kathie, who came recommended by someone we trust, has been instrumental in building a foundation of support. She gained my personal trust quickly and has demonstrated reliability, flexibility and is a true team player. Now, we have a coalition of funders that are potentially interested in supporting our expansion in Colorado and local community leaders advocating on our behalf.”
